A successful portrait should feel considered without feeling forced. It should look polished, but it should still feel like the person being photographed.

Our process begins with how the photographs will be used, who they need to reach, and what they should communicate. A corporate portrait may need to feel confident and approachable. An environmental portrait may tell more of a story through the location. An actor or model headshot needs to show range without disguising the person behind excessive styling or retouching.

The purpose changes, but the approach remains consistent: thoughtful preparation, controlled lighting, clear direction, and enough time to create photographs that feel natural and intentional.

One Portrait Process, Different Purposes

Portrait photography is not a single formula. The lighting, location, expression, styling, and level of production should reflect where the photograph will appear and what it needs to accomplish.

Corporate and Executive Portraits

Corporate portraits should look professional without making everyone appear the same.

We photograph executives, founders, financial professionals, attorneys, creative teams, and company leadership for websites, annual reports, press releases, presentations, LinkedIn profiles, and internal communications.

Sessions can be produced in our studio or brought directly to a company’s office. For larger teams, we establish a consistent lighting and framing system while still giving each person enough direction to look comfortable and individual.

Clean does not have to mean generic. The goal is a polished portrait that feels credible, current, and appropriate for the organization.

Environmental Portraits

Environmental portraits place the subject within a setting that adds context to the photograph.

That setting may be an office, studio, architectural space, neighborhood, workplace, or another location connected to the person’s story. The surroundings become part of the composition without overpowering the subject.

These portraits work especially well for editorial features, company profiles, thought-leadership articles, annual reports, personal branding, and people whose work or environment is an important part of their identity.

Compared with a traditional headshot, an environmental portrait is usually wider, more descriptive, and more narrative.

Celebrity and Editorial Portraits

Celebrity and editorial portrait sessions are often more concept-driven.

The photographs may be created for magazines, public relations, advertising, entertainment campaigns, album promotion, interviews, or branded editorial content. Depending on the assignment, the production may involve multiple lighting setups, wardrobe changes, location work, styling, and a combination of tightly framed portraits and wider storytelling images.

The creative approach is developed around the subject, publication, audience, and intended use rather than applying the same visual treatment to every assignment.

Actor and Model Headshots

Actor and model headshots need to show the person clearly while also communicating range.

For actors, the session focuses on expression, presence, casting type, and the subtle differences that can change how a photograph is read. For models, the images may include clean agency-style headshots, beauty photographs, profile views, and additional looks for portfolios, comp cards, and online profiles.

Direction is specific but not overly posed. Retouching is polished while preserving real skin texture, features, and character.

The objective is not to turn the subject into someone else. It is to create a strong, current representation of who they are and how they can be cast or presented.

Personal Portraits

Not every portrait needs to be attached to a company, agency, or publication.

Personal portrait sessions may be created for a milestone, creative project, social profile, personal brand, family archive, dating profile, or simply because someone wants a photograph of themselves that feels more considered than an everyday picture.

These sessions can be understated or highly styled. Some people want a simple, timeless studio portrait. Others want several looks, dramatic lighting, fashion-influenced images, or photographs made around New York City.

The session is shaped around the person rather than a standard package or professional title.
