Polarized is a men’s model test photographed by Ken Jones in New York City, featuring Garrett of Major Models NYC in a series of direct portraits, expressive headshots and graphic composite images.
The session was built around a restrained visual approach. Minimal styling and a neutral studio environment keep the focus on the model’s facial structure, physique, expression and ability to shift character in front of the camera.
Styled by Luis Brown Creations, the shoot moves between straightforward agency portfolio imagery and more experimental treatments that divide the frame between positive and negative tonal values.
A model test built around expression
A useful agency test should do more than produce one polished portrait.
It should show how the model responds to direction, changes expression and maintains presence through small variations in posture and framing. Several images in Polarized use nearly identical lighting and camera positions while the expression changes from neutral to playful, confrontational and relaxed.
Those subtle shifts give agents, casting directors and clients a clearer sense of the model’s range.
The close portraits emphasize facial structure and direct eye contact. Wider shirtless frames reveal proportion, posture and physical condition without distracting wardrobe or elaborate set design.
Clean portrait lighting
The core portraits use hard, directional studio lighting against a light neutral background.
The defined shadows create structure across the face, shoulders and torso while maintaining enough clarity for agency and portfolio use. This approach feels more editorial than standard model digitals, but it still allows the subject’s natural appearance to remain visible.
The fur hat introduces texture and a stronger fashion element while keeping the rest of the styling minimal.
Experimental polarized composites
The composite images extend the test beyond straightforward portraiture.
